Celebrating 29 Years: Featuring Works for Very Young Audiences
Treehouse Shakers is celebrating our 29th Performance Season. To kick off the season we were invited to perform Hatched, about Life on the Farm, at Flushing Town Hall in Queens, NY. This piece, now celebrating its 13th year, quickly sold out.
I created Hatched as an immersive experience for babies, toddlers and preschoolers, when there was nothing else like this piece on the touring market. Hatched is considered the first dance-play by an American company, created to engage babies and toddlers, to tour. It is a truly immersive piece for the very young, that follows the life of a baby chick and all the animals she meets on her first day at the farm. Told through live music, dance, theater and puppetry, Hatched has been performed more than any other Treehouse Shakers' play.
Following Hatched, Flutter our play for babies, ages 6-18 months, will be making its way to The Kennedy Center this Fall and then to NYC at The Ailey Studio Theater in Manhattan, and eventually to Mark Morris Dance Center. Flutter is our experiential play for babies, conceived/written & directed by myself, with choreography by Emily Bunning, music by Anthony Rizzo, puppetry and costumes by Patti Gilstrap and Scenic Design by Louisa Thompson and Jung Griffin. Flutter began creation right before the pandemic and then we finished our creation once the company was fully vaccinated in the summer of 2021. We premiered Flutter in the Fall of 2021. It has since toured Lincoln Center, EQT Pittsburgh Children's Festival, The Charleston Gaillard Performing Arts Center, Performing Arts Center at Purchase, among others.
Sail Away, also conceived/written/directed by myself, with choreography by Rati Varma, and original music by Maro Giacalone, premiered in May of 2024, and has since continued to tour. We will be heading with this piece to The Charleston Gaillard Center in South Carolina in January 2026.
